Ok, I said I would stay out of this but here it goes! Let's chime in on the engine claim rule. As a participant in the IMCA, I won't comment on their rule. However, I can comment on Wissota rules! Their claim is $400, or $200 and swap. Let's hear what you have to say, and I will try to stay as impartial as I can. Later all!

Well HB, I have thought on this awhile now, and I don't care for the engine claim rule...ya can't even start to put a motor together for 325, so I would have to say the same about the Wissota. But you also have to finish in the top 4 to really start worrying about being claimed! I understand why they do it...and I would say I would rather have a trade then just loose my motor!

The claim would be a good rule to have if it was used properly. There are tracks that will let a claim take place even if they know it's for the wrong reason(such as they don't get along or maybe they traded some paint the week before). I had a dominate season at a track that was know to be a claiming track, I ended up down 2 motors, I was claimed three times, claimed one back but when I tried to get my others back they turned them down. My sucess wasn't because of motor it was the way my car was set up and my pit crew, of coarse I still had to drive it but that's the easy part when you got a good car and crew! I think the claim s#@ks, I've changed to Wissota now so if we were ever put in that situation again atleast there is the exchange rule.

I see where you're coming from JP. From my point of view, I doubt the claim works outright anywhere. It just seems to me that the motors that should be claimed, never do. I don't want to get to into it, but the object of the claim is to keep the playing field level. It should be a scare tactic to keep people from dumping thousands of dollars into a motor, for fear of loosing it for $400. Yet I suppose the guys that have the cash to put a multiple thousands into a motor, can likley afford another one. That being said, what's your opinion? If your like me, I don't spend money on "high end" parts. I enjoy the "good ole boy" racing. Thanks for your input, and keep in touch!
