;D Hi I wanted to start a forum to help guys like us out on racing a metric chassis on asphalt. We are currently running a minicup style of car up in Canada and next year we are going to switch to a full size car. I have no idea what works with a metric chassis or where to start. By the Way the driver will be my 13 year old son. The rules say stock 350, stock rear end, 3 spd auto, DOT tires. Any help with building our first "real car" would be greatly appreciated.

Hey JWO! and welcome to our forum. Mostly mud slingers on this forum. But we welcome all racers. Sounds like that class would be a bear to get an advantage. We used to have an asphalt track just south west of here. Quite a few of my buddys races Stocks and Mods on there. I can check and see if they have any tips for ya! Do you need me to set up a special topic for you asphalters? We get alot of traffic on here, but mostly just browsers. I get more e-mails than anything. So, don't be afraid to speak up and let yourself be heard!! What kind of metric are ya runnin'? We run a Grand Prix on the dirt, but used to run a Regal. All but the same, but good bodys are hard to come by these days

Thanks for the reply Brian. We have not purchased a chassis yet but I'm thinking a Monte Carlo. There seems to be alot of aftermarket parts. As for an asphalt forum I think that would be an awsome idea. It would definitely keep things less confusing! This is going to be ground up build so we are going to need all the help we can get. Jim

I am starting to build a regal for a limited sportsman at Thompson speedway in conneticut. Here are a few big thing I have found to help me. If your rule will alow it will help alot. Impala or any GM wagons have spindles with large bearings and 11 3/4" rotors this helps alot but it does have the 5 on 5 lug pattern. We can run a chevy c15 lower ball joint which is taller but the A arm has to be reamed out. If I find out any more I will post it.

Get a pyrometer, do not think about it, budget for it, wait for one on sale, GO GET IT.... make sure it is a probe not a surface reader. This will be the most important tool in getting the car dialed in on asphalt. Get any of Steve Smiths street stock books for general knowledge in the essentials of cam/cas, toe out , roll center etc... also get to the scales whenever you can

I agree Chief. We used to haul our car to a buddys scales. Was a pain, but it helped. Now we have our own, and it makes alot of difference. Now we have more time to experiment. Which leads me to my next question. Shocks or no shocks on the scales? I read some time back that the top NexTel teams scale with shocks conected, but I was tought to scale without them. Any thoughts?

Having worked my way through the ranks, all the way to ARCA I say weigh the car with the shocks. Depending on the bounce/rebound you can see a weight shift. Also depending on spring set-up you may get a false reading with a spring sitting more towards free height. just my 2 cents
